PP-3779- AN EXQUISITELY CARVED ESKIMO POWDER HORN DEPICTING THE
HEAD OF A SEAL
Circa 19th Century
Length: Approximately 5.5 inches (14 cm.)
Provenance: Acquired by Anthropos Gallery from a distinguished New York Native American Art Collection.
This powder horn, or gunpowder measurer has a finely detailed carving at the tip opening of the horn (which is probably the tip of a musk ox horn)
depicting the face of a seal. There is an old wood plug on the base opening of the horn secured by four small and very old nails.
