A Colima Dog Standing with Teeth Bared,
Protoclassic, circa 100 B.C. to A.D. 250.
Height: 10.2 in. (25.9 cm.); Length: 16.5 in. (41.9 cm.).
This large
pup is posing alertly, with ears perked, as if about to bark. Black pigment
on red slip is accented by areas
of manganese oxide deposits.
Provenance: Sold by Harry Franklin, Beverly Hills, California to Leonard Kaplan of Laguna Beach, California during the early 1960s, then acquired from Mr. Kaplan for a Private Laguna Beach, California Collection where it has remained until recently.
