NA-2702 A SPLENDID NORTHERN NORTHWEST COAST SHAMAN'S AMULET

 

This fine Northwest Coast raven effigy, carved from an antler, was used during the 19th Century by shamans of the Haida or Tsimshian Tribe in healing rituals. It has a hole drilled for suspension from a ceremonial object.

Acquired from the Proctor Stafford Collection, Los Angeles, California. Mr. Stafford was an important collector of American Tribal and Pre-Columbian art from the early 1950s to the late 1990s.
